For the non-French readers, find the English version of the interview below !

Interview de Back On Earth

No Captain Chunk!) ou encore Martin Beusker (Kensington). The Almost, Motion City Soundtrack, The Wonder Years, Transit…

Back On Earth : Nous choisirions catchy, mélancolique et aérien.

Back On Earth : Adrien : Bring Me The Horizon, War Wage, Juice WRLD
Clément : Muna, Grayscale, The Script
Gianni : Biffy Clyro, Bon Iver, Such Gold
Jean Baptiste : Architects, Four Year Strong, Enter Shikari
Mehdi : Somos, Tiny Moving Parts, Post Malone

Back On Earth : Adrien : The 1975 – A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships
Clément : Oh Wonder – No One Else Can Wear Your Crown
Gianni : Four Year Strong – Brain Pain
Jean Baptiste : Polaris – The Death Of Me
Mehdi : Lauv – How I’m Feeling

Back On Earth : L’authenticité.

Le show sera gratuit !

Interview de Back On Earth (English Version)

MetalZone : First of all, could you introduce the band for those who don’t know you yet?

Back On Earth : Hi, MetalZone readers! We are Back On Earth, a Parisian alternative rock/pop-punk band that has been playing live since 2010. We have proven ourselves within the Parisian pop-punk scene with 3 EPs. Our tracks have been produced by Beau Burchell (Saosin), Bertrand Poncet (Chunk! No Captain Chunk!) and Martin Beusker (Kensington). We also played in France and abroad with American bands such as The Almost, Motion City Soundtrack, The Wonder Years, Transit… The band consists of Clément on vocals, Adrien and Jean-Baptiste on guitars, Gianni on drums and Mehdi on bass.

MetalZone : What pushed you to come back after this long 5 years break?

Back On Earth : After each having evolved in different projects during this hiatus (2014), Jean-Baptiste, Adrien and Mehdi got together for a rock festival in Leeds (Slam Dunk Festival). They came up with the idea of re-forming the band. Jean-Baptiste contacted Clément, who immediately agreed to get the project back on track. The latter immediately started working on the composition of new songs. The only thing missing was a drummer, so we immediately thought of Gianni to join our ranks.

MetalZone : What are your plans for this year? Do you have a particular goal in mind?

Back On Earth : After releasing our new single Yŏuth last October, and its alternative version in December, we will release our next single in February with a video clip. Our goal is not to release a new EP or album, but rather to release a song every two months. In order to take the time for promotion.

MetalZone : If you had to use only 3 words to describe your music, which ones would you choose?

Back On Earth : We would choose catchy, melancholic and aerial.

MetalZone : If someone has never listened to one of your songs, which one would you recommend to start exploring your universe?

Back On Earth : We would recommend our song Yŏuth which we think represents the balance between old Back On Earth songs and new ones. It still has that airy and uplifting feel to it, but with a more pop feel to it, which is unique to our newer compositions. Yŏuth was produced by Beau Burchell of the famous American band Saosin.

MetalZone : Could you please share your TOP 3 most listened to artists/albums at the moment?

Back On Earth : Adrien : Bring Me The Horizon, War Wage, Juice WRLD
Clement : Muna, Grayscale, The Script
Gianni : Biffy Clyro, Bon Iver, Such Gold
Jean Baptiste : Architects, Four Year Strong, Enter Shikari
Mehdi : Somos, Tiny Moving Parts, Post Malone

MetalZone : What is the musical release you are most looking forward to in 2020?

Back On Earth : Adrien : The 1975 – A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships
Clement : Oh Wonder – No One Else Can Wear Your Crown
Gianni : Four Year Strong – Brain Pain
Jean Baptiste : Polaris – The Death Of Me
Mehdi : Lauv – How I’m Feeling

MetalZone : Do you have a good memory related to music to share with us?

Back On Earth : We remember one of our shows at the Klub, the venue was packed. At the end of the set the audience asked us to play one of our songs, Lonely. That’s when we decided to leave the drums to our friend Loick (ex: A Call to Sincerity / Novelists)! Our then drummer Jonathan (Eddy de Pretto, Angèle…) started singing along with Clément! It was really a beautiful memory, the audience was crazy !

MetalZone : Is music something more visceral or intellectual for you?

Back On Earth : I think it’s more visceral in the sense that it can convey strong emotions, without us being able to control it.

MetalZone : Are you more for perfection or imperfection in music, production, and sound in general?

Back On Earth : Authenticity. It’s true that with big American-style productions (a standard since the late 2000s), we lose the authenticity of a “handcrafted” sound, the “warmth” of the live sound. In the future, we’re really going to work on that, in the search for a more differentiated sound, with more colours, something more informal in a way.

MetalZone : What are the things that are most important to you when you create?

Back On Earth : The transmission of emotions, not only through the melodies of our songs but also through the lyrics. Carrying a message through emotion.

MetalZone : A last word for your fans and our readers?

Back On Earth : First of all thank you for reading us so far, and thank you to those who have been following us since 2010! Of course we don’t forget the new listeners! We also take this opportunity to make a small announcement, we’re back on stage after 5 years of absence on February 10th at the Supersonic. The show will be free! In addition, we will be with our friends from Atlas For Home and Affidavit. A free rock night in Paris, you can’t miss it! Finally, our music is available on all streaming platforms, so don’t hesitate to go and listen to us.
