Dans le cadre de la sortie du nouvel album de Polaris, nous avons eu le plaisir de nous entretenir avec Jamie Hails, le chanteur du groupe de Metalcore australien. Pour rappel, le nouvel album du groupe intitulé The Death Of Me sortira le 21 février 2020 via Resist Records et SharpTone Records. Interview de Polaris
MetalZone : Tout d’abord, félicitations pour l’album. J’ai passé un bon moment en l’écoutant ! Comment te sens-tu vis-à-vis de The Death Of Me ?
Polaris : Merci beaucoup. Je suis content que tu l’aies apprécié. Je suis très fier de cet album. J’ai hâte que tout le monde entende ce que nous avons fait pour le prochain chapitre de notre groupe.
MetalZone : Si tu devais utiliser seulement 3 mots pour décrire le nouvel album, lesquels choisirais-tu ?
Polaris : C’est du Polaris. Haha, non, sérieusement, je dirais : brut, puissant et intense.
MetalZone : Quel a été le morceau le plus difficile à enregistrer, et pourquoi ?
Polaris : Pour ma part, je dirai Hypermania, principalement à cause du style vocal de cette chanson. Nous avons passé beaucoup de temps à peaufiner chaque prise vocale, et à réenregistrer pour parfaire les prises.
MetalZone : Quelles sont les chansons de The Death Of Me que tu as hâte de jouer en live ?
Polaris : Ce n’est pas pour répondre facilement, mais, honnêtement, toutes. Il y a tellement de diversité dans cet album. J’ai hâte de jouer toutes ces nouvelles chansons, et de créer de nombreuses setlists pour les futures tournées. Beaucoup de ces nouvelles chansons sont très amusantes à chanter, et oui, comme je l’ai dit, j’ai vraiment hâte de les jouer en concert.
MetalZone : Es-tu plutôt pour la perfection ou l’imperfection dans la musique, et la production ?
Polaris : La perfection, nous sommes tous perfectionnistes dans le groupe. C’est parfois un peu difficile d’arriver à un accord sur certaines chansons ou certaines parties, parce que nous voulons tous être à 110%.
MetalZone : Préfères-tu composer ou tourner ?
Polaris : Personnellement, je préfère les tournées, mais voir notre musique prendre forme et entendre le produit final est très gratifiant.
MetalZone : Comment es-tu entré dans la musique ?
Polaris : Il y a des années, ma cousine en Angleterre m’a montré Green Day. À l’époque, j’écoutais du rap et du hip-hop et elle m’a montré le DVD de Green Day, Bullet In A Bible. J’étais stupéfait et j’ai dit : “Je veux faire ça, ça a l’air génial”. Des années plus tard, c’est le cas, je suis dans mon propre groupe et je fais des choses que je n’aurais jamais pensé réaliser. Alors, dédicace à ma cousine Lorna, merci !
MetalZone : Peux-tu nous faire part de ton TOP 3 des artistes/albums les plus écoutés en ce moment ? Tu peux élaborer si tu en as envie !
Polaris : Cabal, Sleep Token, The Midnight.
Cabal est un groupe danois vraiment génial. Pour ceux d’entre vous qui lisent ceci, écoutez Cabal, ils ont de grandes choses à venir et leur nouvel album est incroyable.
Sleep Token est un groupe que j’ai découvert très récemment, et je n’ai pas grand-chose à dire à part : “Puta*n de mer*e !”. C’est un groupe absolument incroyable. Je pense que nous allons voir une nouvelle vague de musique dans les prochaines années, où des groupes prendront ce que Sleep Token fait et l’adapteront à leur musique.
Hors Metal, The Midnight est honnêtement mon groupe préféré. C’est tellement relaxant et émotionnel. Tout est question de sensations, et, mec, quand le saxophone arrive, mon Dieu ! Écoutez et vous comprendrez.
MetalZone : Y a-t-il un artiste que tu apprécies vraiment en ce moment et que tu voudrais promouvoir ?
Polaris : Mes bons amis de Justice For The Damned.
MetalZone : Quel est ton meilleur souvenir musical de l’année dernière ?
Polaris : Jouer avec Architects en Espagne, et voir le public chanter le riff principal de leur chanson Mortal After All.
MetalZone : Un dernier mot pour vos fans et nos lecteurs ?
Polaris : Soyez gentils, aimez-vous les uns les autres, et j’espère que vous apprécierez tous The Death Of Me.

MetalZone : First of all, congrats on the album. I’ve had a great time listening to it! How do you feel about The Death Of Me?
Polaris : Thank you very much. I’m glad that you’ve been enjoying it. Feeling very proud of the record, I cannot wait for the world to hear what we’ve been up to, and to hear the next chapter of our band.
MetalZone : If you had to use only 3 words to describe the new record, which would of choose?
Polaris : This is Polaris. Haha, no, seriously, I’d say : raw, powerful and intense.
MetalZone : What was the most challenging track to record, and why?
Polaris : For myself, I would have to say Hypermania, mainly because of the vocal style in that song. We spent a lot of time really nailing each vocal take, and retracking to perfect the takes.
MetalZone : What are the songs from The Death Of Me that you can’t wait to perform live?
Polaris : Not to answer this easily, but, honestly, every single track. There’s so much diversity in this album. I cannot wait to play all these new songs, and come up with many different setlists for future tours. A lot of the new songs are really fun to perform vocally, and, yeah, as I said, I’m really looking forward to performing these all live.
MetalZone : Are you more for perfection or imperfection in music, and production?
Polaris : Perfection, our whole band , we are all perfectionists. It makes it a bit harder to reach an agreement with songs and parts sometimes, but it’s only because we all want everything we do to be 110%.
MetalZone : Do you prefer composing or touring?
Polaris : Personally, touring, but seeing our music come together, and having the final product at the end of the day is very rewarding.
MetalZone : How did you get into music?
Polaris : Years ago, my cousin in England showed me a band called Green Day. At the time, I was into rap and hip hop, and she showed me Green Day’s DVD Bullet In A Bible. I was in awe and said : “I want to do that, that looks bloody awesome”. Years later, we are and I’m in my own band doing things I never thought I would ever do or achieve. MetalZone : Could you share with us your TOP 3 most listened artists/albums at the moment? You can elaborate if you feel like it!
Polaris : Cabal, Sleep Token, The Midnight.
Cabal is a really freaking awesome heavy band from Denmark. For those of you who are reading this, listen to Cabal, they have big things coming up and their new album is incredible.
Sleep Token is a band that I have very recently gotten into, and I don’t have much to say apart from : “God f*****g damn!”. Absolutely incredible band. I can imagine we will be seeing a new wave of music coming in the next few years from bands taking what Sleep Token do and adapting it to what they do.
The Midnight is honestly my favorite non heavy music band/ group. It’s so relaxing and emotional, it’s all about the feels, and, man, when that saxophone comes in, oh my god! Listen and you’ll understand.
MetalZone : Is there an artist you really love at the moment that you would want to promote?
Polaris : My good friends in Justice For The Damned.
MetalZone : What’s the greatest music related memory you have from last year?
Polaris : Playing with Architects in Spain, and the crowd singing back the main riff to their song Mortal After All.
MetalZone : A last word for your fans and our readers?
