Durant les fêtes de fin d’année, le groupe de Metal finlandais Swallow The Sun a sorti un colossal single de 13 minutes intitulé Lumina Aurea. La piste était purement atmosphérique, et ne ressemblait pas à ce que les musiciens composent habituellement. Le guitariste du groupe, Juha Raivio, avait déclaré que cette composition était pour lui comme une flamme dans la nuit, une arme qui lui permettait de faire face et de continuer à avancer sur son chemin de vie.
Avec la publication du single Upon The Water, extrait du nouvel album When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light, nous comprenons mieux ce dont il voulait parler. Le groupe est connu pour son mélange de Death Metal Mélodique, Death Metal et Doom Metal à la saveur mélancolique. La composition est en l’honneur de leur défunte amie Aleah Stanbridge. Décédée le 18 avril 2016, à cause d’un cancer, la chanteuse était également la compagne de Juha Raivio. Cet album traite de la perte, la douleur, le deuil…

The album title, When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light, comes from Aleah’s own words, When a shadow is forced into the light. That was exactly what I needed to do. To push myself out from the shadows. I’ve been pretty much a hermit in the woods for two and a half years. Gathering my life to write this album. That’s also why the subject is very personal and therefore hard for me to talk about. I’d rather leave it all to the music and words on When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light to tell the story.
