Depuis sa création en 1975, il y a plus de 40 ans, Iron Maiden a été l’incarnation de tout ce qui définit le Heavy Metal. Dans ce genre validé par les fans, ils ont tout fait selon leurs propres termes, même à leurs débuts où ils ont refusé de se conformer aux standards Punk pour obtenir un contrat de disque. L’inébranlable Steve Harris avait une vision, ne faisant aucun compromis (sauf peut-être pour le tempo de Flight of Icarus), car les chansons intemporelles et les productions scéniques mythiques de Iron Maiden ont conquis les fans du monde entier avec peu d’aide de la part du grand public, si bien que beaucoup de leurs pairs ont prospéré.
Pouvant se vanter, selon nous, d’avoir le plus solide catalogue dans le monde du Metal, classer chaque chanson d’Eddie et des boys était un défi de taille mais bienvenu. Chaque chanson est en quelque sorte un livre d’histoire, Iron Maiden a emmené ses auditeurs dans les cieux déchirés par la guerre, où des pilotes de chasse se sont affrontés pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, a amené les condamnés sur la marche solitaire vers la potence, a remonté jusqu’à l’Égypte ancienne où les hommes sont devenus des dieux (ce qui n’est pas très loin de leur statut immortel dans le Heavy Metal) et a traversé d’autres moments historiques et des domaines d’évasion fantastique à travers la littérature et le cinéma.
Même au XXIe siècle, la production de Iron Maiden s’est hissée au-delà de la série étonnante de sept albums qu’ils ont produits dans les années 80. Non contents de se résigner à être un groupe à succès, ils ont alterné les tournées d’albums avec des clins d’œil à des époques spécifiques de leur passé, démontrant ainsi la solidité de tout leur catalogue, ressuscitant même deux classiques de l’époque de Blaze Bayley, qui a semé la discorde, lors de leur tournée de 2018, Legacy of the Beast.
Aucun autre groupe n’a maintenu un tel niveau de domination pendant si longtemps, une notion qui devient évidente lorsque vous parcourez notre classement des chansons de Iron Maiden ci-dessous, avec des douzaines de chansons mythiques qui apparaissent bien au-delà de la barre des 75.
